position in theatre design/technical direction
Northwestern College invites immediate applications for a tenure-track
theatre designer, teacher of design and technical director beginning
August 2008.
Who are
we looking for?
We long for
a creative and good-humored colleague to join our ensemble of artists,
passionate to serve our culture, believing that Jesus is the Lord of
the theatre. We need a great designer who is also an excellent teacher.
You'll teach the following courses over a two-year rotation:
Introduction to Design, Stagecraft, Scene Design and Costume Design.
Each year, you'll produce one of the design elements (scenery, costumes,
lighting or sound) for two or three shows. With the assistance of a
scene shop foreman, you'll also serve as technical director for our
season. What qualifications are necessary? You must have a terminal
degree (M.F.A. or Ph.D.) or be well on the way toward completion. Design
and scenic construction experience are crucial. You must be a committed
Christian, active in a local church.
Who are
we?
We're a
theatre and speech program with a rich tradition and a strong reputation
locally and nationally. We have five full-time faculty members, a
part-time scene shop foreman, a half-time costume shop supervisor, and a
full-time secretary. We currently have 35 majors in theatre and
theatre/speech. We offer scholarships to majors and non-majors, and we
currently have about 65 scholarship students working in our production
season. We produce four fully mounted faculty-directed shows each year,
a touring company, a world-premiere festival, and several
student-initiated productions. Our award-winning DeWitt Theatre Arts
Center contains two fully-equipped theatres seating 200 each, a scene
shop with same-level access to each theatre, costume shop, and lighting
shop.

Assistant Professor of Technical
Theatre
PURPOSE:
Coordinate the technical aspects of main stage shows and studio theater
productions.
REPORTS TO:
Chair, Communication Department
RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential
job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Design and deliver quality
scenery for main stage shows and studio theater productions. Supervise
scene shop staff, student workers, and scenic budgets. Maintain Fine
Arts Procenium Theatre and Studio shop, stage, storage facilities, and
equipment.

Work with faculty Artistic
Director in overseeing technical and dress rehearsals and performances.

Provide safety training for
shop and stage student employees and student crews.

Teach a six
credit load in Communication per semester.
Secondary job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Provide
lighting, sound, or scenic design as appropriate.

Assist with
development and maintenance of shop budget.

Assist with
miscellaneous department duties as requested by the Chair.
