THEATRE FESTIVAL SOCIETY is inviting applications for the position of
Producing Artistic Director. Chemainus
Theatre Festival (CTF) is a vital fifteen year old regional
not-for-profit theatre company. As
the only professional producing company on Vancouver Island that focuses
primarily on the classics, we are known for our vibrant, relevant, and
detailed productions of plays of enduring value from both the historical
and modern canon. These
have included twenty-one plays or adaptations written by Canadians.
We are known for our warm and welcoming environment where we
provide employment for emerging and established theatre practitioners. Since over 60% of our patrons travel an hour or more to see
our shows, we consider CTF a destination theatre; therefore, we provide
a get-away experience for our audience in our performance complex that
houses an intimate 275 seat theatre, a dining room, and an art gallery
& gift shop. We also
own our own administration and production buildings, which contain a
rehearsal hall, dance studio, scenery shop and a props and costume shop.
We have made a commitment to helping other organizations by
providing administrative, rehearsal and shop support for theatre
companies, schools, clubs, summer camps, workshops, and educational
conferences. CTF is looking
for a new Producing Artistic Director who, in conjunction with the
Managing Director will direct and oversee all aspects of its theatre
operations. The new AD will
be able to articulate a strong artistic vision and have extensive
theatre experience. He or
she will have a proven management record, leadership and administrative
skills, along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
The new AD will have experience working with governing boards and
most importantly, a heart for the CTF core values. This is a
full-time salaried position that begins January of 2009.
The new AD will be responsible to oversee the 2009 season as
selected by the outgoing Artistic Director.
There will be a transition period with the outgoing AD between
January and June of 2009. The
core values of the Chemainus Theatre Festival: To
fund, create, develop, facilitate and promote quality artistic
productions that include a selection of classics, plays of International
and Canadian distinction, adaptations from classical literature, and
plays for the young audience in an environment which is conducive to
family and community participation, providing interaction and
developmental opportunities for artists, audience, and staff. The
Festival will include plays in its seasons that explore the themes of
hope, reconciliation, truth telling, joy, the exposure of hypocrisy, and
forgiveness. If this
