CHEMAINUS THEATRE FESTIVAL SOCIETY

CHEMAINUS THEATRE FESTIVAL SOCIETY is inviting applications for the position of Producing Artistic Director.

Chemainus Theatre Festival (CTF) is a vital fifteen year old regional not-for-profit theatre company.  As the only professional producing company on Vancouver Island that focuses primarily on the classics, we are known for our vibrant, relevant, and detailed productions of plays of enduring value from both the historical and modern canon.  These have included twenty-one plays or adaptations written by Canadians.  We are known for our warm and welcoming environment where we provide employment for emerging and established theatre practitioners.  Since over 60% of our patrons travel an hour or more to see our shows, we consider CTF a destination theatre; therefore, we provide a get-away experience for our audience in our performance complex that houses an intimate 275 seat theatre, a dining room, and an art gallery & gift shop.  We also own our own administration and production buildings, which contain a rehearsal hall, dance studio, scenery shop and a props and costume shop.  We have made a commitment to helping other organizations by providing administrative, rehearsal and shop support for theatre companies, schools, clubs, summer camps, workshops, and educational conferences.

CTF is looking for a new Producing Artistic Director who, in conjunction with the Managing Director will direct and oversee all aspects of its theatre operations.  The new AD will be able to articulate a strong artistic vision and have extensive theatre experience.  He or she will have a proven management record, leadership and administrative skills, along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  The new AD will have experience working with governing boards and most importantly, a heart for the CTF core values.

This is a full-time salaried position that begins January of 2009.  The new AD will be responsible to oversee the 2009 season as selected by the outgoing Artistic Director.  There will be a transition period with the outgoing AD between January and June of 2009.

The core values of the Chemainus Theatre Festival:

To fund, create, develop, facilitate and promote quality artistic productions that include a selection of classics, plays of International and Canadian distinction, adaptations from classical literature, and plays for the young audience in an environment which is conducive to family and community participation, providing interaction and developmental opportunities for artists, audience, and staff. The Festival will include plays in its seasons that explore the themes of hope, reconciliation, truth telling, joy, the exposure of hypocrisy, and forgiveness.
