This workshop will inspire to bring Scripture alive in your worship services.  From the foundational basics to getting creative with Reader’s Theatre, drama, movement, music, and media.  Your eyes will be opened to a variety of ways to bring Scripture alive in a respectful, God-honoring way using your Bible, your God-given gifts and your imagination.  Audience will participate.

Sam Kauffman 

Meet Joanna, wife of Herod’s steward, Chuza, follower and friend of Jesus of Nazareth.  Experience the last week of Jesus’ life, his crucifixion, death and resurrection through the eyes of Joanna in an original, one woman, musical drama presented by Christian dramatist, singer, composer and storyteller, Sam Kauffman.

  • Enacted Prayer

Northwestern College 

Northwestern College’s national touring theatre company will demonstrate a prayer form in which words become image and movement.  For nearly a decade, they have been using this powerful way of praying with congregations of ten people to a thousand.  This is a repeat of a popular workshop for past CITA conferences.

  

  • Laban is For Actors Not Just Dancers

Using Rudolf Laban’s 8 effort actions, this workshop explores how movement motivates the character and conversely how character motivates the movement.

 

  • Sin Onstage: Choices in Christian University Theatre

Panel will consider choices made in Christian theatre departments.  Not a “how-to” seminar; rather , a discussion about choices regarding languages, physical intimacy, “non-Christian” plays etc. and why those choices are made.

Shakespeare’s voice is unlocked through the heart’s connection to the text.  Through vocal and physical exercises, effort will be removed from the actor and the heart will make its connection to the text.

Taking a scene from Anton Chekhov's Three Sisters, this workshop considers the process of communication between directors and designers, and explores ways the two work together to create the most effective space for rehearsal blocking and performance.
